Lymphatic drainage and its importance in health
The lymphatic system is an essential component in our bodies to maintain health and protect from illness and disease.
Key functions of the lymphatic system is aid in eliminating waste from the body, balancing interstitial fluid and convert protein molecules into the venous circulation. The lymphatic system is also important in immune surveillance, defending the body against bacteria, virus and foreign microorganisms.
When infection occurs, the lymph nodes will produce white blood cells to combat the infection resulting in a build up of lymph fluid, along with bacteria and immune cells can cause the lymph nodes to swell. In some cases the lymph nodes themselves can become infected.
The lymphatic system processes fats and fat soluble vitamins and transports them through the venous system where they are used, whilst removing waste and toxins where these are then processed and removed by the liver and kidneys.
Unlike the heart, the lymphatic system does not have a pump to help move lymphatic fluid through the body, it relies on muscle contraction from movement of the body to keep flow and balance. The more toxic substances that enter the body, the more pressure that is put on the lymphatic system to process and remove them.
How can I help to maintain a healthy lymphatic system?
You can help support your lymphatic system by exercising. Exercise increases blood flow throughout the body, the result of increased blood flow helps squeeze lymph fluid through the lymph vessels.
Reducing your intake of toxic substances such as alcohol and processed foods high in saturated fats helps to maintain function. Processed foods high in saturated fats are more difficult to process and drain.
Hydrating with water! Lymphatic fluid contains a high percentage of water. The less hydrated the body is the slower and more stagnant the lymphatic system can become resulting in inefficiency.
Lymphatic drainage is a technique used to aid movement of lymph fluid through the body, enhancing in lymphatic health, as well as a results driven treatment for diseases such as Lymphedema, fibromyalgia and endometriosis. It is also used to reduce oedema and fibrosis post surgery and where injury has occurred.
Medical Endermologie by LPG Medical is a device using negative pressure to accurately and consistently stimulate fluid in lymphatic system, both in the superficial layer and subcutaneous layer of tissue, resulting in 33% more efficiency than manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) and 4x more blood flow.
With specific protocols designed for many health and medical conditions, Endermologie is an effective Lymphatic drainage technology.
